WSG is committed to helping clients improve overall turnaround efficiency and carbon impact of turnround events as the industry works towards achieving the Global Methane Pledge to eliminate routine flare emissions by 2030.
We recognise flare reduction comes with many challenges for our LNG clients, specifically trade-off between production versus emissions reduction priorities, as well as the need for upfront financial investment, outdated technologies and infrastructure, and geographically diverse regulatory and contractual intricacies.
We also know flaring remains a key component of today’s global LNG operations and is necessary to clear hydrocarbons from isolated systems to enable maintenance work and equipment shutdowns, less commonly, to safely load LNG vessels arriving with impurities that require removal before transfer, and also in dealing with irregularities that need controlled flaring to safely release pressure and manage excess hydrocarbons during abnormal conditions.
At WSG, we offer practical, end-to-end solutions; unique strategies and tactics that can unlock time during the system defrost phase, nitrogen purge / LEL removal phase, post maintenance O2 free phase, and system cooldown and startup phase in. By leveraging our assets and operational and technical expertise in designing flare reduction methods, we can assist clients in lowering turnaround costs to best support investment decisions and simultaneously deliver ROIs to stakeholders. Processes are applicable to LNG export and LNG re-gasification terminals.
Key technical services –
- LNG Pushback services using cold Natural Gas or cold Nitrogen to recover LNG from systems priors to Defrost.
- System / critical equipment isolation and continuous cooling with cold Natural Gas or Nitrogen to maintain equipment in cryogenic conditions while other systems are warmed for maintenance.
- Targeted isolated system controller Accelerated Defrost or wider plant controlled Accelerated Defrost. Equipment capabilities to minimise system wide Defrost time.
- Accelerated Nitrogen Purging to LEL free systems utilising specialist high flow and temperature controlled nitrogen vaporisation equipment.
- Post maintenance Accelerated Nitrogen Purging to safely inert systems prior to introduction of LNG utilising specialist high flow nitrogen vaporisation equipment.
- Targeted isolated system controlled Accelerated Cooldown or wider plant controlled Accelerated Cooldown.
- Defrost and Cooldown flare gas capture and re-use solutions.
WSG provides specialist equipment which is dual certified for both Liquid Nitrogen (LIN) and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) that operate at high flow rates and provide output gas temperatures of from -150 DegC / -238 DegF to +150 DegC / 302 DegF with fine control to +/- 1Deg. This equipment combined with WSG engineering capabilities, when working hand in hand with client operations team, can optimised processes during Turnaround events to cut significant time from the critical path. In addition our flare gas re-use solutions provide environmental benefits.
