Trainee Process and Pipeline Technician/Operator – Nitrogen Services and Hydrostatic Testing

Based at our UK Head Office at Normanton, with travel across the UK - we are looking for a motivated Trainee Process and Pipeline Technician/Operator to join our Operations team. This role offers full training and hands-on experience in Nitrogen Services and Hydrostatic Testing, supporting the delivery of safe and reliable services to clients in the energy, oil & gas, and industrial sectors.

The position is ideal for someone with a strong interest in engineering or industrial operations who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and build a career in a specialist field.

Key Responsibilities (Training and Development Focused)

Under the supervision of experienced technicians, the trainee will:

Nitrogen Services

  • Assist with the set-up and safe operation of nitrogen pumping and vaporization equipment.
  • Learn how nitrogen purging, inerting, and testing operations are carried out.
  • Support monitoring of equipment performance and operational checks.

Hydrostatic Testing

  • Support in preparing and conducting hydrostatic pressure tests on pipelines, tanks, and pressure vessels.
  • Learn to use pumps, gauges, and recording devices for test measurements.
  • Assist in identifying leaks or issues during testing and observe troubleshooting methods.

General Duties

  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions.
  • Support routine checks and basic maintenance tasks on equipment.
  • Learn how to complete operational records and job documentation.
  • Work alongside senior technicians to understand client communication and job coordination.
  • Be willing to travel to client sites (sometimes at short notice) and adapt to varying work environments.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential (Trainee Entry-Level):

  • Strong interest in engineering, process operations, or industrial services.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and work in challenging environments.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Physically fit, able to carry equipment and perform manual tasks.
  • Clean and valid driving licence.

Desirable (but not essential – training will be provided):

  • Basic mechanical or technical skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices.
  • CCNSG or equivalent safety passport.
  • Previous experience in an industrial, engineering, or construction environment.
