WSG Awarded Contract to Deploy Advanced Waste Recovery Process Offshore
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a significant offshore contract in Perth, Western Australia to deploy our patented Advanced Waste Recovery™ (AWR) process, featuring WSG’s market-leading Emulsion Buster™ technology, for the remediation of hydrocarbon emulsion waste directly at the point of generation.
Offshore facilities commonly accumulate hydrocarbon emulsion waste in onboard waste tanks. This material is traditionally shipped to shore for third-party handling and disposal – an approach that results in substantial waste management costs, increased CO₂ emissions associated with vessel transport and potential production disruption when tank capacity becomes constrained.
WSG’s AWR process, supported by the Emulsion Buster™ remediation system, enables offshore operators to break, separate and recover usable hydrocarbons on site. This eliminates the need to store and ship large volumes of emulsion waste while significantly reducing environmental impact and improving operational uptime.
In addition to the Emulsion Buster™, WSG’s Advanced Filtration Media™ technology removes a variety of hazardous chemicals, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, metalloids (such as Mercury) and naturally occurring radioactive materials from process water, further reducing the waste stream.
“This contract represents a major step forward in changing how the industry manages emulsion waste on offshore,” said Kent Pohio, General Manager of WSG Energy Services.
“By applying our Emulsion Buster™ technology offshore, operators can minimize logistics, reduce carbon footprint, and recover valuable product that would otherwise be lost.”
Initial deployment will focus on processing accumulated emulsion waste within existing waste tanks, allowing operators to free critical tank capacity, reduce over-the-side waste transfers and improve the continuity of production operations.
With a proven track record onshore and offshore, WSG’s Advanced Waste Recovery process consistently delivers high oil recovery rates, significant waste volume reductions and measurable cost savings. Bringing this capability offshore marks a milestone in the company’s strategy to help operators meet both environmental and financial performance goals.
“This is a strong example of how innovation can directly support decarbonisation and cost-reduction agendas,” added Kent. “We look forward to working closely with our customers to demonstrate the full operational and environmental benefits of this technology.”
